Dental Implants

Dental implants are a permanent and appealing solution to replace missing or extracted teeth. Dental Implants are a great alternative to conventional dental bridges because no additional teeth need to be altered to place the replacement tooth.

The implant process is usually performed over the course of a few months. The first part of the process is to place the implant itself.  This involves placing the titianium implant into the jaw bone. An incision is made in the gum so that the implant can be inserted. Multiple implants can be placed at once if necessary.

The implant is usually allowed 3-6 months to heal.  During this time the jaw bone and the implant will intergrate together (a process called osseointegration). While your implant site is healing, temporary crown(s) are somtimes used to maintain a proper aesthetic appearance for your smile.

After osseointegration of the implant has taken place, your implant is ready to restore with a replacement tooth. Think of the implant as the root of the tooth.  At this point, two additional components are necessary to complete the dental implant.  First, an abutment is fabricated that connects to the dental implant.  This abutment serves as the base for your new tooth.  Once the implant abutment is connected to the dental implant, a crown is fabricated and cemented to the abutment.  Once the process is finished, your new tooth with look, feel and function as if it were your natural tooth.
